Yakisugi-charred pine … Read more The Cumulus Candle Holder is a hand-carved wood and marble object from the Melting Collection by Gabor Gobi. Yakisugi-charred pine and white marble remnants are drawn upward into a narrow vertical form — accumulative, column-like, with the quality of something built by slow natural process. A carved cork base settles the composition at its foot.

Each piece is composed from salvaged material — beam wood, marble remnants — chosen for the marks time has already left on them. The wood is treated using the Yakisugi charring technique, then finished with natural oils and beeswax. No synthetics enter the process. Cork protects surfaces from contact.

On the finished object, pale marble and charred wood come together not in contrast but in apparent fusion — as if shaped by the same geological pressure. The beeswax seal gives the surface a quiet depth that responds to its surroundings.
