Imari … Read more This is an antique Japanese Imari porcelain plate or serving dish, likely from the Meiji period (late 19th century). Imari ware is a style of Arita porcelain, and this piece has a beautiful leaf shape and such clear, vibrant color!
The plate features intricate hand-painted floral motifs, specifically chrysanthemums, and fan designs, which are common traditional Japanese motifs.
The dish has a pretty scalloped edge that has been accented in gold, which shows some wear but is still present. Imari is lovely mixed in with any collection of blue and white as it adds that beautiful pop of orange while still staying true to the Asian style. I love mixing these into plate walls and mantel displays, and tucked onto shelves amongst other treasures.
Aside from the wear to the gold, there is no damage that has occured from handling. the surface imperfections are a result of the glazing and firing processes, so you can see some irregularities to the glaze where the piece was fired on the metal supports tha he'd the piece during firing. they are present as small rough spots, but they are hidden by the lively pattern.
