It is constructed from pine wood and features distinctive brass mounts shaped like Celtic crosses. The bank is raised on stile ends, resembling a miniature stool or chest.
"Mary McIver - Jubilee Bank" is stamped on a brass plaque.
"Jubilee" most likely is in reference to the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887.

Condition is good, with the whole displaying a strong patination and deep rich color. Appears to have been opened at some point in its history and the back was reattached as can be seen with the two small slotted screws on the top. There are indications that two of the Celtic cross pieces have been removed from the top of the bank.

Pieces of folk art themselves are ephemeral, simple, and often crude, though they are always enchanting. They were made by unskilled people, usually provincially, for everyday use and enjoyment, and are naively decorated, and made of basic materials. Folk art provides an excellent insight into the everyday life of ordinary people in times of old.

A unique, humorous and charming object. See less
