A set of six chairs, model “S28,” designed by Pierre Chapo in 1972 and crafted in solid elm. Each chair is distinguished by a spade-shaped backrest with an integrated handgrip, a subtly contoured seat, and four square, gently tapering legs.
Trained as both an architect and a craftsman, Chapo developed a body of work defined by rigorous joinery, honest materials, and quietly sculptural forms—qualities that are clearly expressed in this design. The S28 exemplifies his enduring commitment to structural clarity and functional beauty, resulting in a piece that is both robust and elegantly understated. (There are no maker's marks on these chairs as is consistent with the design.)
