This 19th century Persian Kurdish oversized gallery rug is a striking example of tribal weaving, showcasing a sophisticated all-over paisley (boteh) pattern rendered with precision and artistic clarity. Hand-knotted in a long gallery format, the rug features a deep navy blue field filled with repeating paisley motifs in rust, brown, blue, and ivory tones.
The field is beautifully framed by a wide rust red primary border featuring bold geometric designs, providing strong contrast and definition. Multiple narrow secondary borders in complementary shades of ivory, red, and blue add depth and intricacy to the overall composition, enhancing the layered aesthetic of the piece.
Kurdish rugs from the 19th century are highly regarded for their durability, distinctive tribal character, and expressive geometric interpretations of classic Persian motifs. This oversized gallery example is ideal for large corridors, open interiors, or statement installations.
