A Pair of Custom Blue Wingback Chairs
Blue Herringbone by Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams / Navy Blue Linen by Restoration Hardware
This pair feels less like furniture and more like a casting decision made by someone with very good instincts. Two very different shades of blue, two very different personalities, and absolutely no interest in matching simply because someone thought they should.
The blue herringbone chair is quietly tailored: button tufting, sculpted wings, generous proportions, and nail-head trim. It doesn't demand attention. It simply has a way of making everything around it look as though it has recently been given some. It’s the one who has already done the work.
The navy linen wingback is more restrained, but no less confident. Its linen shifts beautifully with the light, moving from crisp navy by day to something deeper and considerably more atmospheric by evening. Its tall wings establish the boundaries, while the carved oak stretcher base brings just enough architectural authority to suggest that this chair knows exactly where it stands.
Together, they don't match and that's why they work. One brings tailored texture and a little wit; the other brings depth, restraint, and just enough gravitas to keep things interesting. They've achieved the sort of healthy boundaries most people need a life coach to discover. No competition, no identity crisis and no need to be the same just because you're sitting in the same room.
Put them in a living room and suddenly everything else seems expected to pull itself together. Place them in a study and decisions may actually get made. Position them together and the room feels considered without looking overly arranged. Designers will tell you to create balance, these two skipped the life coach and went straight to chemistry.
