EXTRACTS FROM THE TEXT OF BARBARA TÖPPER FENNEL - GALLERY BARSIKOW BERLIN 1998 Images of Memory, (name of the series) refers to images that arise from the memory of the very personal memory of a Latin American artist who lives in Europe. ; but at the same time it is the memory of paintings of a collective nature, a memory of the cultural origins of the history of humanity in times of pre-civilization, of archetypes and primitive rites. Images are memories of places and are themselves places of memory. ”(…) “These works are fully consciously based on a line of tradition often forgotten in modern art by the constant pressure for innovation and the euphoria of progress of the avant-garde within modernity itself, established in an exemplary way by Picasso in relation to art African: the work of memory is accomplished, not to repeat the past, but to appropriate it and interpret it in the context of the present.
