The main field displays a winding thicket of a multitude of botanical motifs, each with its own, unique meaning. Because Sultanabad rugs have a more supple weave, the design is grand-scale and not very intricate. We see individual floral compositions bloom in muted colors, including beige, blue, green, red and yellow, to contrast with the main fields dark background. Antique Persian Sultanabad rugs are handmade creations of wool, made in accordance with traditional techniques dating back to the 19th century. See less
