Overview:
Museum-quality craftsmanship, original gilding, and a custom-engraved mirrored top. An extraordinary Italian interpretation of Louis XVI refinement.
Description:
An exceptional vintage Italian dining table dating to circa 1940 and executed in the refined tradition of the Louis XVI period. Hand-carved in wood and finished with original oil and water gilding, this piece retains visible red bole rub through that confirms age, quality, and authenticity.
Produced in the manner of Jansen, the table reflects neoclassical symmetry and restraint, interpreted through an Italian lens with greater scale, depth of carving, and architectural presence. The apron is richly ornamented with crisply carved motifs that demonstrate expert craftsmanship and disciplined proportion.
Originally engineered to support a marble slab, the base reveals its strength through robust construction and architectural balance. In the 1960s, a bespoke engraved mirrored top was commissioned and added, transforming the table into a dramatic statement while remaining period appropriate. The mirror features a large central panel framed by an intricately etched border of interlocking ovals, a motif that precisely echoes the carved pattern along the gilded apron.
The result is a serious period table that balances historical gravitas with visual impact. It functions equally well as a grand dining table or as a focal piece in a formal interior where scale, provenance, and craftsmanship are essential.
Ideal for grand dining rooms, designer installations, or luxury hospitality projects requiring a dramatic ten foot statement table.
