Artwork sold with frame (100 x 78 cm) Hans Stalzer (1878–1940) was an Austrian painter renowned for his landscapes, portraits, and war scenes. Born in Vienna on April 8, 1878, he initially received private art lessons before studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under prominent artists such as Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels, Siegmund L'Allemand, Kasimir Pochwalski, and August Eisenmenger. During World War I, Stalzer served in the Austro-Hungarian Army, initially as a technical draftsman and later as a war artist for the War Press Bureau. In this role, he created portraits of notable figures, including Prince Leopold of Bavaria and Ottoman statesman Talât Pasha. from 1909, Stalzer was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. Between 1922 and 1924, he lived in Sweden. Despite his prolific output, he lived in modest circumstances. His works are held in esteemed institutions such as the Wien Museum, the Albertina, the Museum of Military History in Vienna, and the Society of Friends of Music.
