This elegant antique Indo Larestan carpet is a beautifully woven example of the early 20th-century Indian weaving tradition, inspired by the refined floral carpets of Persia. Produced around 1920, it reflects the high level of craftsmanship achieved by Indian workshops, which became renowned for weaving finely executed carpets using Persian-inspired designs and excellent-quality wool.
The rich midnight-blue field is decorated with an orderly allover pattern of stylized flowering plants, palmettes, and scrolling vines, creating a graceful and highly balanced composition. The repeating floral motifs are rendered in warm shades of coral, rose, ivory, golden yellow, and soft blue, standing out vividly against the deep indigo background. The overall design has remarkable symmetry and sophistication, making the carpet equally suitable for traditional or contemporary interiors.
A handsome series of borders surrounds the field, featuring classic floral ornamentation and elegant vine scrolls that frame the composition beautifully. The natural colors have mellowed gracefully with age, giving the carpet warmth and character while preserving excellent visual contrast.
The carpet remains in good condition and has been professionally reduced in size, a modification that does not diminish its decorative appeal. The weave remains sound, the colors are vibrant, and the long gallery proportions make it especially well suited for hallways, galleries, libraries, or large open spaces.
Early Indo Larestan carpets of this quality are appreciated for their fine workmanship, attractive Persian-inspired designs, and decorative versatility. They continue to be sought after by interior designers looking for elegant antique carpets with exceptional visual impact.
