Very nice antique pair of Chinese horse riding stirrups, well aged and patinated...dating to the Qing Dynasty.
The lack of ornamentation indicates that this pair was used (owned) by a low status horse soldier of the Chinese army.
Some credit the Mongols/Chinese with the invention of the stirrup...either way, most horses were used by soldier for war.
